An LED strip light – alternatively called an LED tape or ribbon light – is a flexible circuit board fitted with surface-mounted light-emitting diodes
(SMD LEDs) and other components, typically featuring an adhesive backing.
Historically, such strip lights were exclusively used in applications like accent lighting, backlighting, task lighting, and decorative lighting. However,
advancements in luminous efficacy and the development of higher-power SMDs have significantly expanded their use cases. Nowadays, LED
strip lights can be employed for high-brightness task lighting, as replacements for fluorescent and halogen light fixtures, and in indirect lighting
setups. They also find applications in ultraviolet inspection during manufacturing, stage and costume design, and even as a light source for plant
growth.
LED Strip Lights Installation Steps
Test the Strip First: Connect the LED strip to the power supply (and controller, if applicable) temporarily to check if all LEDs light up properly. This helps identify defects before permanent installation.
Apply the Strip: Peel off the protective layer from the adhesive backing and press the strip firmly onto the prepared surface. For uneven or outdoor surfaces, use additional clips or mounting brackets for extra security.
Secure Connections: If extending the strip or connecting to a power supply, use compatible connectors (avoid soldering unless you have experience). Ensure connections are tight to prevent loose contacts or short circuits.
Avoid Overlapping: Do not overlap sections of the strip, as this can trap heat and reduce lifespan or cause overheating.
